Discovering Something New

Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend
Have you ever wondered where all of the cool gadget noises and ambient sounds come from when listening to Vampire Weekend? Well Rostam Batmanglij, the multi instrumentalist is who to thank. He gives them their unique sound and really makes them stand out from the rest of the Indie genre of music.
Wes Miles of Ra Ra Riot

Now, how many of you enjoy the smooth vocals of Wes Miles of the Ra Ra Riot? I know I do. What if I told you these two very talented musicians came together? Crazy thought right? Well as you guessed, the point i'm trying to get to is that, yes, they have collaborated.
In 2005, they started recording music together on the side under the name "Discovery". Since both bands originated in NY, it wasn't difficult to make this happen at all. Also the fact that both, Ra Ra Riot and Vampire Weekend played the same genre and often joined each other on shows. To you loyal Vampire Weekend fans out there, don't take this the wrong way. I love Ezra Koenig's (lead singer) voice, and he defines that band, but there is something about Wes' voice that really flows well with Rostam's music. If only both bands could join forces. Who knows, maybe it will happen eventually.
Discovery's Album Cover for "LP"
In 2007 Discovery released their first album called "LP".  The music on this album was spectacular. You can really hear the originality in it all, and hear that all of it was done with passion. Some of the highlight songs (in my opinion) on the album are:Orange Shirt, So Insane, Carby Ft. Ezra Koenig, and a very original cover of I Want You Back (Michael Jackson). I love listening to this album and if you are looking for a new thing to listen to, give this a shot.
This is Mikey B. Keep the music bumping!
