Take A Look

Kaz of Redlight King
I'm sure all of you have heard the song "Old Man" by "Neil Young". It's an instant classic and one played all along the radio waves. One thing Neil Young, even at his older age, is known for, is that he doesn't ever allow an artist to mix, sample, or use his music in any way. Then a band by the name of "Redlight King" came along. Kaz (the vocalist) was writing a song about his hard times with his dad and could think of no better song to use with it then Neil Young's "Old Man". So the battle started. He went to the lawyers and the manager of Neil Young pleading his case and only got "No"'s. But that wouldn't keep him from trying. He wrote the song, and got ahold of Neil Young himself and asked him to listen to the track. After hearing it once, he immediately allowed them to use it. Though I enjoy Mr. Young's rendition more, there is no getting past the fact that the song, that shares the same name (Old Man), is definitely a hit. You can listen to "Old Man" by "Redlight King" here. It has more of a hip hop sense while still holding the roots of the song. The rest of the album which is said to be released this summer is said to have samples of "The Doors" and "Jimi Hendrix". If what we already heard is a sense of the rest of the album, then this album is at the top of my list to pick up. Kaz, you deserve mad props for not giving up and for making your vision a reality. Keep at it!
Till next time everyone, this is Mikey B, ROCK ON!
